For the first few days of my placement I was out and about London Town with Saskia, sourcing props for the up and coming "Teppanyaki" photoshoot. Which was really good and beneficial, as I got to see London (even if it was pissing it down the whole time) and get to know where everything was and more importantly how to get there and not get lost on the tube.
We mainly visited China town, as the photoshoot had a chinese/ Japanese concept. We went into every shop there to source different objects Alex could use to build the backdrop of the set with, we had a list which he sent us with consisting of fans, lanterns, tapestries, tea sets, cups, parasols, flowers, chop sticks, Kimonos and accessories. He was quite specific in what he wanted, as he didn't want just cheap tat you can buy, which London seems to be full of! Everyone in the shops seemed so nice and was happy to help, offering us loads of discount on every item we looked at!
Once we had finished there we moved onto SoHo, (which has to be the gay capital of London, they were like ants, everywhere!) as there was a really cool, cheap shop there.
Brick Lane and all the vintage shops came next, man it was so hard to stay focused surrounded by all the AMAZING garments which surrounded me. London has vintage like no other place I can think of. Beyond Retro is like a gold mine, it must have clothes from every decade.
After we had collected all the information we needed we headed back to the studio to pull it all together, so we could present it to Alex next week.
It was so so nice to spend quality time with Saskia and really get to know her both as an artist and on a personal level. Ive finally found a friend for coffee and cigarettes!!
My next post will be dedicated to Saskia and her artwork as she clearly is a true creative.....
